> “ANON! ANOOON! GET IN HERE ANON!”
> You panic as you dash out of the kitchen and bolt down the hall, towards the study.
> The urgency in Glimmers voice has you on edge.
> Dark, scary thoughts flit through your mind as you stumble into the warm, dimly lit room.
> The flickering of the orange light from the fireplace disorients you, causing you to pause.
> It takes you a few seconds to regain your mind and your bearings.
> Your eyes scan the room, searching for Starlight.
> You spot her over in the corner, by the fireplace, her head tilted down and her hooves wrapped protectively around her belly.
> You stand by the door, confused as to why there was such an urgent need for you, after all from where you were standing everything looked fine.
“Starlight –“
> “Shh!”
> Star silences you with a harsh shush and a beckoning wave of the hoof.
> You comply with the mare, knowing better than to push your luck, especially now of all times.
> Slowly you make your way towards the warm and fuzzy bundle that is Starlight Glimmer.
> She’s surrounded by blankets and pillows, creating a small, cozy haven just for her.
> Pushing aside a pile of cushions, you intrude into her “nest”.
> She just smiles at you, seemingly excited at your presence.
> “Starlight --” you whisper softly “– What’s the matter?”
> A delicate tone tickles Starlights ears as you sit next to the mare, wrapping her up in a loose but possessive hug.
> Starlight says nothing.
> Instead she leans back into your embrace, taking in a deep, reassuring breath as she does so.
> The prickly, light feel of magic wraps around your hand, pulling it out from around her and instead laying it upon her stomach.
> You are just about to question Starlight when you feel a slight movement under your palm.
> The two of you fall silent.
> The sound of crackling fire trickles into the void left by the two of you.
> Tenderly you lay your hand upon her stomach, gently pressing into her with both fear and excitement.
> Bump. Wriggle.
> You feel it once more.
> The kick of little hooves beneath you hand.
> Starlight looks up at you and smiles, tears welling up in her eyes.
> “Y-You can feel her too?” She says with a voice filled with apprehension.
> You nod.
> Tears stream down her cheeks are she hugs onto your arm.
> Tender sobbing escapes her.
> Soft, scared sniffling fills the room.
> You bend down and bury your face into her mane, breathing in her sweet, floral scent.
> Your lips press down upon her, kissing her, soothing her shaking form.
“Shh, it’s alright Glimmy” You whisper into her mane.
> The trembling stops.
> Calm.
“Don’t you worry Star. She’s going to be born healthy. She’s going to grow up into a happy little filly and all the little colts in town will be chasing her, just like how I chased you.”
> Starlight giggles, remembering your more “active” days.
> You pull the mare into a gentle hug.
“She’s going to be a great and beautiful mare like her mother, and I’m going to be here right by your side, watching her grow up into that great and beautiful mare.”
> You kiss her on the head once again, letting her know that you meant what you said.
> The room becomes silent once more as the two of you share your little moment together.
> You watch the firewood burn and the embers dancing upon the flames.
> Its hypnotic.
> You find yourself in a daze as you stare into the fire, slowly losing yourself with Glimmer resting in your arms.
> A hushed “Thank you” mixes in with the sounds of the fire.
> You smile and hold your wife closer to you.
> Your hands roams the small bump that is her belly, feeling the signs of life within.
